Deconstruction of Camera Angles & Editing
Camera Angles:
·
Next, there are close ups of the woman
dancing to show the audience of her sleazy nature.
·
Midshot looking over the waitress’s arm to
the two men – this shows the audience that they are making their way over to
begin drinking.
·
Long shot of woman dancing to highlight how,
at first, she is alone but then it is used to show the drunken man joining her
and they seem to be having fun.
·
A close up of one of the men moves into a two
shot of another man wearing sunglasses sitting there, this then moves into a
long shot showing the two men sitting and the drunken man dancing with the
woman behind them. This long shot establishes the scene and who is there in the
diner so the audience understands better.
·
Close up of the man wearing sunglasses which
flicks to images of him with his face bloodied. The close up is used to show
the audience his expression as he recalls this event.
·
Close ups of drunken man’s face and two shots
of them dancing to show us that they are having fun.
·
Long shot used to show us their fight. The
long shot enables the audience to see that the surroundings are still the same,
but that something unknown has happened for the woman to attack the drunken
man.
·
Close ups of character’s faces during the
fight to show the audience of the reaction to this sudden fight.
·
Two shots and close ups of the man and woman
fighting to illustrate to the audience their expressions and feelings.
·
Two shots and close ups used again but for
the other two men fighting; to show us their reactions and expressions to the
fighting.
·
Long shot is used for both pairs who are
fighting to show the audience the atmosphere of the diner and what is happening
in there.
·
Close ups used of bullet and knife victims to
reveal what they are doing, whether they are running away or ducking, and their
expressions, whether they are scared or alarmed.
·
Towards the end, close ups are used of the
remaining living characters to show the audience who is still alive and their
reaction to what has just happened in the diner.
Editing:
·
Jumps cuts used throughout the sequence, no
transitions used between shots and this is to make the sequence more abrupt.
This creates a fast pace and it seems to foretell that something bad may
suddenly happen.
·
Most shots are in colour and some are black
and white. The black and white is used to show the woman dancing which
represents how she is drunk, to show the man wearing sunglasses' face when he
is recalling a horrific event, and when the drunk man is dancing with the
woman. More black and white shots are used towards the build up of the fights
as a forecast to indicate to the audience that something bad is going to happen.
·
Right before the woman throws something at
the man, the record being inserted back into the player is reversed and this
tells us that there has been a quick turn of events and that the fun they were
having is going to stop and turn into the opposite.
·
The number of jumps cuts used increases when
the fight becomes more violent and this, as before, creates a faster pace to
make the fight seem more intense.
·
When the man wearing sunglasses attacks the
other man, the fight is shown to the audience using different angles around the
two men and using coloured and black and white shots. Also, as there are many
angles and colours used, there are are transitions between each of thesd
different shots and this creates a fast pace to the fight, and this makes the attacker
seem more powerful and agile.
